Complaints are made every day about LED headlights blinding drivers in traffic

Almost every day, a new complaint thread is opened on social media about LED headlights that ‘blind’ drivers in traffic. Despite inspections, the number of users of these headlights, commonly known as ‘LED Xenon’, is increasing. Most of the headlights come from China and are purchased and installed for 800-900 TL, and they are also exempt from ‘inspection’.

Experts warn users that these uncertified products are a health hazard. Recently, drivers who enter traffic with their vehicles are struck in the eyes by the intense LED lights that hit the mirrors directly from the vehicles coming from the opposite lane or from the vehicles approaching from behind. Sometimes the intensity of these LED lights is so intense that it is impossible to see anything else during the exposure.

Drivers who are exposed to this open a new topic on social media almost every day to report their complaints about the issue. However, unfortunately, since the inspections regarding this are insufficient, the number of people using these headlights, commonly known as “LED Xenon”, continues to increase exponentially. These headlights, most of which are imported from China, do not have any certification and it is possible to buy these headlights, marketed as “lightning effect”, online for 800-900 TL and have them installed. 681 / 5,000

THEY HAVE NO CERTIFICATIONS

We asked both automotive sector officials and healthcare professionals about the issue after the increasing complaints. Stating that the full name of these lamps is ‘replaceable LED lamps’, Automotive Aftermarket Products and Services Association (OSS Association) Board Chairman Ali Özçete emphasized that the majority of the lamps emitting white light are supplied from the Far East and especially China. He also stated that there is no certification. Özçete said, “These lamps are above the required electrical values and do not have optical data. For this reason, they cause electrical danger in vehicles and threaten road safety.”
